Offenders of the Jilin fatal fire sentenced

Seven people involved in a fatal fire that killed 54 people in February this year are brought to court for trial in Jilin City of northeast China's Jilin Province, July 10, 2004. Six of them were sentenced to three to seven years in prison at the court hearing held here Saturday. The deadly blaze, which started at 11 a.m. Feb. 15 on the second floor of the Zhongbai department store where many people were doing weekend shopping, resulted in 54 deaths, more than 70 injuries and direct economic losses totaling 4 million RMB (482,000 US dollars).
