Hong Kong International Airport recorded strong double-digit increase in passenger, cargo and aircraft movement figures in June, according to a press release of the Airport Authority.

Cargo throughput reached 250,000 tons thanks to high demands for summer consumption in the European and American markets. The increase was 24 percent over the same month in 2003, and represented a double-digit growth for the fifth consecutive months.

Passenger traffic rose by 15 percent over June 2002 to 3.1 million, with Hong Kong resident, transfer, transit and visitor travel markets all making healthy increase.

The robust cargo traffic also brought 16 percent in aircraft movements to a total of 19,275.

The Airport Authority said the double-digit growth was also recorded in passenger, cargo and aircraft movement figures for thepast 12 months. Passenger throughput rose by 19.9 percent to 34 million, cargo throughput rose by 12.6 percent to 2.87 million tons, and aircraft movements grew by 14 percent to 218,470.
