China reports major plunge in canned orange export to EU
font size

China's Export of canned orange and tangerine products to the European Union (EU) have downed dramatically, due to the measures and the quota imposed by the EU.

In the first five months of 2004, China only exported 136 tons via Shanghai to EU, which fell 80 percent to the same period last year, reported Monday's CRI online.

EU imposed the interim security measures as well as the tariff for quota control for exported canned oranges and tangerines from China since November last year.

The annual quota for export of China-made canned orange and tangerine goods to EU is only 30,000 tons.

Another worse thing is that the major destination of the products, the Czech Republic and Poland just became members of EU on May 1 this year.

As the market is shrinking, most of Chinese maker have to change to other fields.
