Aiming at strengthening cooperation between government and non-governmental organizations in curbing AIDS, the China non-governmental forum held a meeting with the theme of "facing challege jointly" in Bangkok that day.

Sandstorm sweeps Jiayuguan
A rare-seen sandstorm sweeps over the sky of Jiayuguan city in northwest China's Gansu Province at about 7:20 p.m. on July 12, 2004. According to experts of Jiuquan Meteorological Bureau, the sandstorm was formed in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and then swept over Jiuquan City and Jiayuguan City of Gansu Province within four hours. As the gale wasn't strong, it didn't do much harm to crops.

"Xiao Qing" and another giant panda "Ba Qi" were transferred on July 12 from the zoo to a giant panda summer resort on the Guling Hill, 1,000 meters above the sea level, near Fuzhou to avoid summer heat.

Military drill in Dongshan scheduled
A team of amphibious tanks stand on the beach at Dongshan Island. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that a large-scale military exercise will be launched in later this month. To date, eight military exercises have been held on the island, which is 277 kilometres from Taiwan's Penghu Islands. (China Daily)
