Pakistan to strengthen cooperation with Afghanistan against terrorism

Pakistan will continue to work with Afghanistan on anti-terrorism war, Pakistani Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat reaffirmed Afghan official in a meeting inKabul on Monday.

"Pakistan has a very clear policy it will not allow any group, any individual to conduct any activity vicious to the interests ofany other country," he said on a joint press conference.

"Our recent operation in the border areas between Pakistan and Afghanistan is part of our commitment towards eradication of the pockets of terrorist organizations in the region," he stressed while referring to the Pakistani military operation in the southern tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan.

Hayat, who arrived in Kabul on a two-day visit Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Afghan government and exchanged views with his Afghan counterpart Ali Ahamad Jalali on matters pertaining mutual interests particularly war on terrors, drug trafficking, and organized crimes.

Afghan Interior Minister Jalali appreciated Pakistan's efforts saying "Afghanistan and Pakistan are front-line countries in war on terrorism. They naturally ally in war on terrorism. A stable Pakistan and a stable Afghanistan are in the interest of both the countries."

Hayat also offered to help Afghanistan train its police and support the upcoming general elections rescheduled for October 9 and next April respectively.

"Afghanistan is our neighbor. A strong Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan and we wish to see the government of Hamid Karzai strengthening by the day," the Pakistani Minister noted.
