China central banker cuts Singapore tripChina's central bank Governor Zhou Xiaochuan has canceled a speech in Singapore scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday), due to concerns of Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's visit to Taiwan. On Sunday, the Chinese foreign ministry voiced dissatisfaction over the visit and said Singapore must take full responsibility for his trip. Singapore reiterated the city-state's backing for the `one-China Policy' and said it doesn't support Taiwan independence. It added that Lee Hsien Loong was making a private and unofficial visit to Taiwan to meet friends in his first trip to the island since 1992. Source: CRI |
