Cambodian PM to meet King at Pyongyang

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen will meet King Norodom Sihanouk on July 23 in Pyongyang, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), official said on Tuesday.

The premier has asked the king on Monday to allow top leaders of Cambodia's political parties to meet him to report about the efforts and outcome on the forming of the new government after 11 months deadlock, the government Spokesman Kieu Kanharith said on Tuesday.

"Today, I am very happy to hear the most exciting news that their Majesties the king and queen allow Prince Norodom Ranariddh, Chea Sim and I to meet him," Hun Sen said in a letter sent to the king on Monday.

Kieu Kanharith told Xinhua Tuesday that the additional constitution law became effective after the Senate's Second Vice-President Nhiek Bun Chhay signed it on Tuesday which smoothed way for a government to get to work soon.

The package vote legislation allows to elect the parliament's and government's leadership in a single vote.

King Sihanouk on Monday asked the acting Head of State Chea Sim to decide whether to sign or not the additional constitution law ratified by the National Assembly and Senate.

Due to Chea Sim's absence in the country on Tuesday, Nhiek Bun Chhay signed it instead.

Kieu Kanharith said that the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is still waiting for the cabinet members' list from its coalition party, royalist FUNCINPEC, and once the list finished the parliament can use package vote to elect the leaderships.
