    Disney Ice Road Show

    Well-known cartoon figure "Micky" (2nd L) and "Minny" apprear on the press confrence of the Disney Ice Road Show for its 100th anniversary in Beijing, Capital of China, July 13, 2004. The show designed to memorize the 100th birthday anniversary for Walt Disney will be held on the Capital Gymnasium of Beijing on July 20.

    Helicopter apron on top of hospital building

    The photo taken on July 13, 2004 shows the helicopter apron settled on the top of a building in Huashan Hospital in east China's Shanghai Municipality. Huashan Hospital, the first one in Shanghai that had an apron for emergency treatment, passed the check by the International Automobile Federation on Tuesday. The trial fly will be held in next few days. The hospital was a designated hospital for Formula One Race. As in the race time, an injured driver can be sent here from circuit within 15 minutes by helicopter. Shanghai will host the China Grand Prix, the country's first ever F1 event, on September 26.

    China's aviation industry to retain robust growth

    The Beijing Olympic Games, Shanghai World Expo and Guangzhou Asian Games will push Chinese aviation industry to boom, says Chen Juming, Vice President of AirBus China at a press conference on July 13. The AirBus predicts that China's aviation maket will retain robust growth in next 20 years. China will become the 2nd largest aviation market in the world by 2002.

    Bulgarian hostage executed in Iraq

    TV footage dated on July 13 shows one of the Bulgarian hostages and the Iraqi kidnappers. The captors threatened to kill the second within 24 hours if the United States refused to release all Iraqi detainees

    Rescue of tourists in Jilin

    Rescuers help an injured woman (C) leave the site where a car accident happened at the Changbai Mountains tourist area in northeast China's Jilin Province, July 13, 2004. The tragedy took place around 9:00 a.m. when a coach bus, with 13 people on board including 11 tourists from Taiwan, turned over here. One woman of the 11 Taiwanese tourists was killed and 10 others were injured.

    Sand barrier

    The picture taken on July 5, 2004 shows the alfalfa planted to prevent soil erosion in Minqin County, northwest China's Gansu Province. Situated in the northeastern part of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province, Minqin County, surrounded by desert on its eastern, western and northern borders, has 1.52 million hectares of land of desertification. Local people have been making efforts to prevent further soil erosion, afforesting about 100,000 hectares of land and planting sand vegetation on 50,000 hectares of land in recent years. Furthermore, 330 kilometers of shelterbelt has been built in the 408-kilometer-long sand-blown line.

    Harvest festival in Tibet

    Wearing festive dress, farmers from Lunbugang Township in Maizhokunggar County, Tibet Autonomous Region in Southwest China, walk in their fields Tuesday to mark the annual Tibetan Harvest Festival. The direct translation of the Tibetan word for the festival means "walking around the crop fields" and local farmers across rural Tibet observe the tradition before harvest. Many places also hold horse races, dancing and other activities.

    2004 Taiwan compatriots youth summer camp

On Tuesday, some 114 Taiwanese college students came to visit Mount Wuyi reserve, a Natural and Cultural World Heritage site of UNESCO. Those 114 Taiwanese students were in Fujian to attend the 2004 Taiwan compatriots youth summer camp which is organized by the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots.

    Beijing unveils Paralympic Games emblem

    The emblem for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games -- a character most used in ancient Chinese, was unveiled in a grand ceremony at the China Centenary Altar in Beijing on July 13.
