The first district-based forum to garner views on selecting the Chief Executive in 2007 and forming the Legislative Council in 2008 in Hong Kong took place in Kwai Chung Wednesday.
The three-member Constitutional Development Task Force, led by Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang, attended the forum. Tsang said the ideas and proposals raised in the discussions reflect people's general wishes on Hong Kong's political reform.
He said the meeting showed there are still different views on the direction and pace of Hong Kong's political reform. However, people hope all sectors set aside their differences and work out a practical proposal as soon as possible through peaceful dialogue to take forth the city's constitutional development.
Tsang said the Constitutional Development Taskforce has operated in a highly transparent manner and listened widely to the views of various sectors and individuals through different channels. It has also provided forums for people to exchange views on election arrangements.
Wednesday's forum was joined by New Territories West district representatives, including District Council, area committee, rural committee and local organization members.
District-based constitutional development forums will also be held on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories East.
