Bakhtiar Ameen, the Iraqi Minister of Human Rights, announced that the remains of the former Iraqi president Abdul Kareem Qassim was found and thus a mystery that had puzzled the Iraqis was solved, local newspaper Al Sabah reported Thursday.

Qassim was the leader of the 1958 revolution which toppled the monarchy in Iraq and founded the first government in modern history of Iraq.

"A cemetery in the suburbs of Baghdad was found three months ago, which included the remains of Abdul Kareem Qassim and some of his contemporaries," said Ameen.

He did not disclose the location of the cemetery and justified it with insufficient security precautions, adding that certain examinations will be carried out on the bodies to make sure of their referents.

The late president was executed after the Arab Baath Socialist Party toppled him in 1963 and his burial place had since remained a secret.
