Austrian president promises to promote relations with China
font size

Austrian President Heinz Fischer said Thursday in Vienna that his country is willing to further strengthen relations with China, especially in scientific and cultural cooperation.

The pledge came when Fischer met with Wang Zhaoguo, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.

Fischer also said his country's stand on the "one China" policy is clear and unassailable.

Wang said Sino-Austrian ties have been developing smoothly in recent years with more exchange of visits at high levels, mutual political trust has been increased and economic cooperation has been developing rapidly.

He highly appreciated Austria's stance on the "one China" policy and hoped Austria will continue to play its positive role in the European Union (EU) and promote further development of the all-around strategic partnership between China and the EU.

Wang and his NPC delegation arrived here Thursday after winding up the visit to Malta. The four-nation trip has already taken them to the Netherlands and Iceland.
