Beijing sacks 13 senior officials for fraud

Beijing has sacked 13 high-ranking officials for corruption and bribe charges in the first half of this year, The Beijing News reported Friday.

More than 32.7 million yuan (3.95 million US dollars) in economic losses have been retrieved, said the paper, citing figures from local procuratorate.

During the period, the municipal anti-corruption authorities have investigated 188 officials and 168 cases of corruption, bribes and other profession-related crimes, the paper said.

Among these cases, 13 bureau-level officials and 35 county-level officials have been removed from post.

In the first six months, the Beijing municipal procuratorate has investigated 6,657 criminal cases and approved arrest of 9,473 people.
