China is committed to furthering China-Denmark ties, vowed a senior Chinese party official in Beijing Friday.
Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the PoliticalBureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark when met with a visiting Danish Social Democratic Party delegation headed by the party's chairman Mogens Lykketoft.
Li said China and Denmark witnessed an increase in cooperation in political, economic, trade, scientific and technological, cultural, education, communication and tourism fields ever since the two countries forged diplomatic relations.
The successful mutual visits between Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Chairman of Chinese National People's Congress Standing Committee Wu Bangguo laid a solid foundation forthe future development of bilateral ties, Li said.
Li said that China values its relationship with Denmark and hopes that ties could be further improved in a spirit of mutual respect and seeking common grounds in differences.
Li pledged that the CPC is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation and promote mutual understanding and friendship with various Danish parties, including the Social Democratic Party.
Lykketoft expressed agreement with Li's views on the current bilateral ties between the two nations and two parties.
He said that Denmark is one of the first countries to recognizethe People's Republic of China and the two nations have remained in close contact since a long time ago.
Danish Social Democratic Party is willing to expand exchanges and communication with the CPC, Lykketoft said. He suggested thatthe two nations should increase mutual understanding and trust andlearn from each other in economic and social construction.
