With the "Beautiful China" photo exhibition as a prelude, a Chinese cultural festival opened in Kenya's coastal city Mombasa Friday, which also features Chinese food, movies and traditional dances and songs.

Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Chongli said at the opening ceremony that "the week-long festival will demonstrate by various means perspectives of a most ancient and magnificent culture in the world," referring to the photographic exhibition, movie shows and a Chinese food festival.

He said the significance of the Chinese Cultural Festival lies in the "more frequent cultural exchanges," which will "greatly enhance the mutual understanding between our two peoples and deepen their friendship."

Kenyan Minister for National Heritage Najib M. Balala described cultural cooperation between Kenya and China, of all the existing bilateral ties, as the most "vibrant."

"This one-week event brings a wholesome package that captures your country's rich and diverse cultural heritage," he said.
