Official urges to accelerate development in minority-inhabited areas

Vice Chairman Xu Jialu of the National Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference has called for efforts to grasp historical opportunities to improve the government policies toward ethnic minority people and accelerate social and economic development in where these people live.

Xu made the call during his 10-day inspection tour of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China which ended Friday.

Xu visited schools, clinics and homes of poverty-stricken villagers in many places in Xinjiang. He also had meetings with local officials.

At the meeting with regional officials, Xu said Xinjiang's practice showed that the Party's policies to promote social and economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited areas were extremely correct, scientific, sincere, and successful.
