A Chinese insurance company has launched a new health insurance program for children which covers severe diseases including AIDS contracted through blood transfusion.

"The new program for the first time provides insurance for transfusion-incurred AIDS," a spokesperson for the Nanjing branch of China Taiping Life Insurance Co. Ltd. told Xinhua on Monday in this capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province.

The new program, named "Sunny Angel," covers 21 kinds of severe diseases and is available for children between 60 days and 17 years old.

In the past, children's health insurance programs offered by Chinese insurers were mostly affiliated with the health insurance of their parents. The new program can be joined independently, andthe premium is refundable when the child reaches 25 years old, thespokesperson said.
