Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat on Monday reinstalled former general security chief Abdel Razeq al-Majayda and replaced his cousin Musa Arafat to placate an inner revolt, well-informed security sources said.
They said that Arafat telephoned Gen. Majayda earlier in the day to inform him to go back to his former position as chief of general security in the Palestinian territories.
After three kidnappings took place within 12 hours in the Gaza Strip Saturday, Arafat appointed his first cousin Musa Arafat to replace Majayda who then became a presidential security advisor.
But on Sunday and Monday, a revolt broke out in the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian militants attacked official security offices and held large-scale demonstrations, protesting that the appointment means more corruption and cronyism.
