The flood-prone Huaihe River saw its first crest this year approach Wangjiaba as heavy rains continued along the upper reaches of the river, said a flood situation notice issued by the flood prevention and drought combating headquarters of east China's Anhui Province on Monday.
The flood was caused by continuous heavy rains in the northern Huaihe River valley and the main tributaries of the Huaihe River including the Yinghe River and the upper reaches of the Wohe River.
So far, the flood peak of the Wohe River has passed safely and the water level has reduced below the warning line. The crest of the Yinghe River reached Jieshou city, bordering central China's Henan Province in the early morning of Monday and arrived in Fuyang city in the afternoon with a water level of 29.7 meters, 0.3 meter lower than the warning line, said an official with the headquarters.
The flood peak is expected to reach Wangjiaba on Tuesday afternoon with a water level of 25.80 meters, 0.7 meter lower than the warning line.
All flood control offices at city and county levels have been ordered to closely monitor water levels. And the local water resources and ecological protection departments are mobilized to ensure the water supply security of the region.
