Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang said Monday that the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) regional development will offer many opportunities for Hong Kong's industry and commerce circles.
Tsang said at a symposium titled "PPRD Opportunities" that the PPRD region is a very important manufacturing base and consuming market, while Hong Kong has advantages in funds, financial services, information and marketing.
He believed that Hong Kong can play the role as a high-value added service center which leads the PPRD to enter the world market.
Tsang said the PPRD region takes one third of the nation's total land space and the regional cooperation with expanded areas provides Hong Kong much more business opportunities.
Hong Kong should cash in on its unique characters and push forward its long-term development.
Tsang explained that the promotion of the regional cooperation requires many large-sized infrastructure projects, and needs much funds and promotion. Hong Kong businessmen have rich experience incollecting funds and managing large-sized projects.
He added that the service sector is a pillar industry for Hong Kong and the sector can provide expertise for the more developed Guangdong and Fujian provinces.
Tsang believed that the less developed provinces in the region need industry upgrading and much funds while Hong Kong has rich funds and advantages in product design, quality management and brand promotion. The parties concerned can launch cooperation in this field.
He said Hong Kong also encourages enterprises, especially non-governmental enterprises in the region to open offices in Hong Kong for conducting trade and investment activities.
Tsang pledged that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will positively push ahead with the regional cooperation, in a bid to achieve the regional economic development.
