font size

Argentina and Colombia will face each otehr in a Copa America 2004 semi-final match at 19:45 hours (local time) Tuesday at Lima's National Stadium.

The last meeting between the two sides was a 5-0 Colombian victory over Argentina in Buenos Aires, in the a South American qualifier for the 1988 World Cup finals in France.

Medellin's Once Caldas soccer club beat Boca Juniors 1-0 in the final of the Libertadores Cup.

The two teams played a friendly match in Miami, the United States in June in their preparations for Copa America, with Colombia winning.

Colombia has been unbeaten in Copa America, after finishing first in Group A (with victories over Bolivia, Venezuela and a draw with Peru) and a 2-0 quarter-final victory over Costa Rica.

The Colombians have a solid defense, a skillful midfield and sharp strikers, with a strategist, Reinaldo Rueda.

Central defender Dinas will not take part in the match for Colombia due to accumulation of yellow cards and will be replaced by A. Gonzalez.

Having lost only to Mexico 1-0, the Argentines have stood out for their pressing and winning mentality, with victories over Ecuador 6-1, Uruguay 4-2 and Peru 1-0.

Argentina also suffers from the absence of captain and defender Ayala, who was sent out in their match against Peru and would now be replaced by Coloccino or Quiroga.

In the midfield Argentina would count again with Mascherano (for Coloccino) and Tevez would now have to begin the match in lieu of D'Alessandro who recovers from a lession in his left tigh.

The line-ups:

Colombia: Henao; Palacios, Orozco, Gonzalez, Victoria; Patino, Aguilar, Diaz, Murillo; Moreno and Herrera:

Argentina: Abbondanzieri; Zanetti, Coloccini (Quiroga), Heinze; Mascherano (Coloccini), L. Gonzalez, Sorin, D'Alessandro (Tevez), Delgado, Figueroa and C. Gonzalez.
