At least 25 miners were killed and 11others were missing in a gas explosion in a coal mine in eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry said early Tuesday.

The blast occurred at 10:30 p.m. local time (1930 GMT) Monday in the Krasnolimanskaya mine in the eastern Donetsk region.

Twelve miners came back unharmed. A total of 48 miners were believed to be working in the mine when the blast took place.

The bodies of 25 miners had been found, and the rescue for the missing was still under way.
