font size

A minivan carrying 12 passengers was detained more than 12 hours on a mountainous road after a landslide Monday night in the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

All the passengers were found at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday and no casualties were reported, the regional police department confirmed.

The police began rescue operations early Tuesday, after they receiving an SOS call.

The minivan, a Chinese-made Jinbei, was blocked at 90 km on thefreeway linking Dushanzi and Kuche. The road, which zigzags in theTianshan Mountain, is often threatened by landslide and flows of mud and rock in summertime.

Sources say Monday night's landslide had occurred after three days of rain in the region.
