Senior Chinese leader Jia Qinglin met in Beijing on July 20 separately with a group of overseas youth of Chinese origin and outstanding middle school students from Hong Kong.

During his meeting with the overseas youth, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, called on them to continue their efforts to promote the understanding between China and the rest of the world for friendship, peace and development.

Jia also met 180 outstanding students from Hong Kong who completed an 11-day course on the Chinese mainland, which was designed to enhance Hong Kong students' understanding of the Chinese mainland and strengthen their sense of national identity.

The national education course highlighted current developments in the mainland and allowed the students to share experiences and interact with the mainland students.
