China attaches importance to exchanges and cooperation with Rwanda, and will continue to work for the promotion of bilateral relations, said Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong in Beijing Wednesday.

Zeng made the remarks at a meeting with visiting Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Charles Murigande, who is here on an official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.

Zeng said China will continue bilateral political exchanges, actively push forward exchanges at various levels, encourage reciprocal cooperation between enterprises while providing Rwanda with possible assistance and expand bilateral cooperation in science, technology, culture and education.

Zeng said China and Rwanda, although far apart with different conditions, boast deep and traditional people-to-people friendship.

Since the two countries set up diplomatic ties 33 years ago, bilateral friendly and cooperative relations have witnessed steady and sound progress, and their political, economic and social cooperation is satisfactory, noted Zeng.

He said the Chinese government appreciates the Rwandan government's one-China position and support for China's reunification.

Murigande reiterated Rwanda's support for China's reunification and said his country will expand bilateral cooperation in various fields within the framework of the China-Africa cooperation forum to benefit the two peoples.
