Saving lives top priority in fighting earthquakes, official
font size

Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu called for giving priority to saving lives when battling earthquakes.

Hui, who is also head of the State Council's headquarters on fighting earthquakes and disaster relief work, made his remarks at Tuesday's national conference on earthquake prevention and disaster reduction.

He said that the country has made remarkable achievements in earthquake prevention and disaster control.

However, he asked people not to ignore weak points and problems existing in the work of earthquake prevention and disaster reduction.

The whole society must be mobilized to join the efforts of earthquake prevention and disaster control, he said.

On Tuesday, Hui and Liu Qi, secretary of the Beijing municipal committee of the Communist Party of China, and the rest of the participants of the meeting, observed an anti-earthquake exercise in a Beijing park.
