The White House on Wednesday dismissed the UN General Assembly resolution to condemn Israel's West Bank barrier as "one-sided."
"The UN resolution was not binding. We expressed our concerns about it being one-sided," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said at a news briefing.
"The president believes that (the road map) is the appropriate way to resolve this matter. An Israeli court has also made a ruling, and Israel is working to meet the court's concerns that itraised," McClellan said.
McClellan said Israel had the right to defend itself and "should also keep in mind the plight of the Palestinian people."
The UN General Assembly on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a resolution demanding that Israel comply with a world court decision and tear down the barrier it is building to seal off the West Bank.
The United States, a staunch ally of Israel, has claimed that it was not appropriate for the UN General Assembly to make a ruling on Israel's West Bank barrier and insisted that the issue should be resolved through the Middle East road map peace plan which calls for an independent Palestinian state.
