Belarussian police broke up an unsanctioned opposition rally in central Minsk on Wednesday. Several dozen participants in the action, mostly young people, were detained and taken to police stations.
A number of Belarussian public figures, including opposition-minded lawmakers, filed an application to stage marches and a meeting, at which they wanted to say how they felt about results of Alexander Lukashenko's decade-long presidency.
The authorities allowed to hold rallies in the outskirts of the Belarussian capital. However, a large group of youths, defying the authorities, attempted to stage a rally in central Minsk. This action was quickly stopped by numerous police.
