China to build city meterological disaster warning system
font size

China Meterological Administration is building a "city meterological disaster warning system" to deal with various disastrous weathers. The system will be completed in next year and color signs which are similar to those used in the US national security grade will be applied in the system, says Zhang Guocai, Director of the China Meterological Center.

According to Song Shanyun, Vice Director of China Meterological Center, China's first city meterological disaster warning system is built in Hong Kong. Governmental departments will remind citizens to deal with Meterological disasters through medias and upgrading the warning levels. But the system is not built in other cities yet.

Certain signals and colors can prevent people from harms done by disastrous weathers. "In some cities abroad, different colors are used to indicate degrees of meterological disasters. Green stands for safety; yellow for escalating disaster, which requires citizens to pay attention to prevention work; orange means serious disaster that needs precaution measures; and black tells the city will be hit by the most serious attack of typhoon and rainstorm," introduces Song Shanyun.

Upon completion, the center will set up the warning system in downtown area of cities. It will also inform the public of the warning by TV, broadcasting, short messages, Internet and telephone.
