Belarussian authorities break up opposition rallyBelarussian police broke up an unsanctioned opposition rally in central Minsk on Wednesday. Several dozen participants in the action, mostly young people, were detained and taken to police stations. A number of Belarussian public figures, including opposition-minded lawmakers, filed an application to stage marches and a meeting, at which they wanted to say how they felt about results of Alexander Lukashenko's decade-long presidency. The authorities allowed to hold rallies in the outskirts of the Belarussian capital. However, a large group of youths, defying the authorities, attempted to stage a rally in central Minsk.
