Iraq beat Turkmenistan 3-2 in Asian Cup
Iraq, who suffered a surprising 1-0 loss to Uzbekistan in their first match in Asian Cup Group C, pulled out to edge Turkmenistan 3-2 on July 22, reviving their hope of qualifying the group stage.

Chinese torch bearers Sun Wen (L) and Pu Cunxin holding the national flag of China and Athens Olympic torch at the White Tower in Thessaloniki, the second largest city of Greece, on July 22. The two torchbearers on behalf of all the Chinese worldwide arrived in Greece on that day and started to study the route of the torch relay. Another Chinese torch bearer Jackie Chan will arrive on July 23.

Terror threat to the Eiffel Tower

French authorities evacuated thousands of tourists from the Eiffel Tower 21 July 2004 after receiving a warning that a plane was to crash into the tower. Around 4,000 people were evacuated from the structure, which was closed for two hours before police ascertained that the threat was a hoax.

Twelve people were killed, four were seriously injured and 48 others remained missing in a large-scale flood and mudflow in the county, according to the latest figure released at 18:00 on July 21, 2004. A landslide and mudflow hit some towns and villages in Yingjiang from July 19 to 20, bringing huge damage to houses and farmlands beside the casualties.

As a life professor at Cambridge University, the 62-year-old cosmologist rejected his 1975 black hole theory when he presented his latest findings at a scientific conference in Ireland July 21, 2004. He believes that some "information" sucked into black holes escapes over time, contradicting some of his most famous work on the phenomenon.
