Spot quality checks on a range of Chinese domestic consumer products in the second quarter of the year show that more than 20 percent failed to reach minimum quality standards.
The checks, carried out by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), revealed that just 76.7 percent of the country's consumer goods were up to standards.
An AQSIQ official said that in the second quarter, a total of 3,819 products from 3,452 companies were checked. The inspections showed that 91.7 percent of commodities made by large-scale businesses, 81.6 percent made by medium-sized businesses and 66.3 percent made by small-sized businesses passed.
During the first quarter, 79.7 percent of the products investigated were up to standard, according to the administration.
