China to launch agricultural projects in flood-hit areas

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to give a disproportionate share of agricultural projects in the second half of this year to those areas of the country hit hardest by floods.

The ministry is now cooperating with other related departments to ensure relief funds and materials could be allocated as soon as possible.

To help guide farmers in flood-affected areas to minimize the loss of disasters and restore farming production soon, the ministry has sent three relief teams to six mostly affected provinces and autonomous regions: Henan, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Yunnan and Guangxi.

Since June this year, the southern part of the country witnessed heavy rainstorms, which caused floods in some parts of the region.

To prevent animal disease following floods, the ministry also released an emergent notice to ask local governments to strengthen monitoring and do a good job in disinfection and vaccination.
