Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos completed his three-day tour in the American continent on Friday, which included the United Nations, Brazil and Colombia.
During his brief one-day visit to Colombia, Moratinos held meeting with Colombia President Alvaro Uribe and his counterpart Maria Carolina Barco Isackson.
The Spanish minister said his country supports President Uribe's security policy, although Madrid canceled the sale of 40 tanks to Colombia.
Spain favors the peace dialogue between the government and the illegal armed groups in Colombia, he said.
As part of the security cooperation, Spain's Defense Minister Jose Bono is scheduled to visit Colombia in September.
During his visit in Brazil on Thursday, Moratinos and BrazilianPresident Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva highlighted the similarity between both governments in defending social justice and multilateralism when addressing international crises.
Moratinos and his Brazilian counterpart, Celso Amorim, exchanged opinions on the free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations between the European Union (EU) and the Common Market of the South(Mercosur), which were expected to complete in October.
During his visit to the United Nations in New York on Wednesday,Moratinos discussed with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan issues such as the dispatch of electoral experts to Iraq and 100 peace-keeping personnel to Haiti, the settlement of the dispute over Western Sahara, and the reform of the United Nations.
