In an effort to reduce the spending of the government and to save more money for the construction of infrastructure, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen decided to stop offering government bought cars to the newly-formed government officials, local media reported on Monday.

The premier made the announcement on Sunday at a bridge inauguration ceremony in Kompong Cham province.

The government won't buy cars for newly appointed government officials, the premier said. "Government officials, from ministers to secretaries of state and undersecretaries of state, should use their current cars. They cannot ask to buy new ones," Hun Sen was quoted by The Cambodia Daily as saying.

The money saved will be used to build more road, bridge, canals,Hun Sen said.

Officials received new Daewoo cars in the last mandate, according to government spokesman Khieu Kanharith.

Cambodia's new government has more posts than last mandate from around 200 to 334, while the cabinet has more than doubled to 186,making it one of the largest in the world.

The new government includes seven deputy prime ministers, 15 senior ministers, 28 ministers, 135 secretaries of state and 148 undersecretaries of state.
