China knits anti-doping net in Athens Olympics
font size

In the war against doping China's stand has always been firm and clear, that is, to carry out the Three-S Guideline, namely, serious prohibition, strict control, and severe punishment. On the playing areas of the Athens Olympics the Chinese Sports Delegation has objectives as clear as ever: to achieve both good athletic records and sportsmanship and make sure that no doping happens among the athletes.

Li Furong, deputy leader of the Chinese Sports Delegation, said the Chinese Olympic Committee had conducted doping checks on athletes who would take part in the match just before the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In the end all athletes who tested positive during the urine tests and blood tests were unable to take part in the Sydney Olympics. In every large comprehensive athletic meeting since the Sydney Olympics no Chinese athlete has had doping problem.

The Chinese Sports Delegation has, according to requirement, submitted a list of 130 therapeutic medicines prepared for the athletes to the Organization Committee of the Athens Olympics. The State Council issued the Anti-doping Regulations this year and implemented it nationwide. The regulations provide the sports front with a powerful weapon in fight against doping as well as a legal basis.
