font size

The number of those killed in the hospital collapse in Afghan capital city of Kabul rose to eight assix others died in the accident, Afghan official confirmed Tuesday.

"Six more wounded persons died so far," Interior Ministry spokesman Lutfullah Mashal told Xinhua via telephone while the rescuers still kept working on the scene.

The under-reconstructed main building of Jamhuriat hospital with Chinese assistance suddenly collapsed Monday afternoon. So far, 26 injured workers have been rescued out of the ruins among some 40 Afghans who were buried in the wreckage.

There were no patients and hospital staff in the hospital when the tragic accident occurred.

Soldiers of NATO-led peacekeeping force have sealed the site since Monday evening to allow rescuers to clear the ruins, hopefully to rescue more.

The project contractor, China National Complete Plant Import and Export Corporation (Group) has sent a team from China to help ease the suffered victims in the accident.

Another investigation team is to arrive here in the next few days.

The state-run Chinese corporation has carried out around 1,400 aid projects including power plants, steel plants, stadiums, mines, and docks in Asia, Africa and Latin America in the past 34 years.
