font size

Over 7,000 Russian servicemen, including 800 officers, have been convicted for various crimes since the beginning of this year, a senior Russian military officer said Tuesday.

Alexander Savenkov, Russia's chief military prosecutor, told a press conference in Moscow that more than half of them have been sentenced, according to Intar-Tass news agency.

He said that in the first half of this year, the Military Prosecutor's Office has registered some 10,000 crimes.

"These data correspond to last year's indicators and characterize the criminal situation in all the departments where military service is stipulated," Savenkov was quoted by Itar-Tass as saying.
