Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong and Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu visited the flood-devastated Dai and Jingpo ethnicities autonomous prefecture of Dehong in southwestern Yunnan province from July 25 to 27, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council.
During their visit, they looked into the flooding situation of the area and urged local people to unite to conquer the aftermath of disastrous floods, under the leadership of central and local authorities.
Zeng and Hui inspected medical facilities, temporary canteens and tents to see if affected villagers were well accommodated. Zeng urged local officials to ensure the adequate supply of food, clothes and drinking water to these people.
On July 5 and July 20, floods and mudslides ravaged the ethnic autonomous prefecture twice, which left 35 people dead, 66 missing and 16 injured. Almost 20,000 houses were ruined, more than 20,000 hectares of crops flattened and destroyed, and a large number of infrastructure facilities seriously affected.
