Singapore's Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong will become the senior minister in the new cabinet afterhe completes the handover of power to Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Aug. 12.
According to local press reports on Tuesday night, Singapore's Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew, father of Lee Hsien Loong, revealed this in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday.
"Mr. Goh Chok Tong will be the number two in the new government," Lee Kuan Yew said.
In Singapore, the post of senior minister comes second in protocol after the prime minister.
While saying that he himself will stay in the new cabinet as a consultant, a counsellor and an advisor, Lee Kuan Yew said that his exact title will be decided by the new prime minister when he names his new cabinet a day or two before the handover.
In 1990, Goh Chok Tong succeeded Lee Kuan Yew as Singapore's prime minister, and he has decided to step down on Aug. 12.
