Karzai announces candidacy for presidential election
Afghan transitional President Hamid Karzai (C) formally announces his candidacy for presidential election in Kabul, Afghanistan, July 26, 2004. Karzai nominated Ahmad Zia Massood (L), Afghan current ambassador to Russia, and Karim Khalili (R), Afghan present vice president, as his two partners for Vice Presidents candidacy. Over 20 candidates have registered with the Election Commission to run for the first free democratic presidential polls in Afghanistan Oct. 9.
