China to enhance overseas Chinese language education
font size

China says an increasing number of overseas students are now studying the Chinese language, leading more domestic colleges and universities to provide services for the group.

The Director of the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs, Chen Yujie, made the remarks at a summer camp in Beijing, which has attracted four thousand youngsters of Chinese origin from 36 countries, as well as Hong Kong and Macau.

He says China has made great progress in teaching Chinese as a second language to overseas students in recent years. And a growing number of students from Hong Kong, Macau and foreign countries are coming to China for language study.

Meanwhile, educational institutions around the country have also trained a large number of teachers that specialize in teaching Chinese to foreign students.
