font size

According to a latest survey conducted by the State Forestry Administration, the number of panda in our country has exceeded 1,500, up by more than 490.

Zhuo Rongsheng, head of the Department of Wildlife Conservation under the State Forestry Administration, says that the State Forestry Administration has conducted in recent years an all-round survey on panda and 252 species of other wild animals. The result shows that the number of pandas has increased from over 1,100 in the 1980s to more than 1,590 at present.

Besides the increase in number, the habitat of pandas has also greatly improved, and the activity area is expanding continually. According to Zhuo Rongsheng, the establishment of nature reserves is the major factor for the increase.

Currently, China has set up over 40 nature reserves in the activity area of pandas, covering 45 percent of the habitat area of panda, and 60 percent of pandas are living in these nature reserves.
