The United Nations Security Council is divided over a United States draft resolution on Sudan, CRIENGLISH.com reported Thursday.
Seven of the 15 countries on the council say Sudan should be given more time to disarm the Arab militias in Darfur. Washington, which had set a 30-day deadline, appears willing to revise the resolution.
The African Union is considering sending a fully-fledged peace-keeping force to Sudan's Darfur province. The troops would join 300 African Union soldiers already deployed to protect international observers and aid workers.
The violence in Darfur continues unabated. African Union observers say Arab militias have committed new atrocities. The residents of one village were reportedly lined up and burnt alive.
