Backgrounder: Major bomb attacks since establishment of Iraqi govt

Up to 68 people were killed and more than 70 wounded Wednesday in a suicide car bombing outside a police station in the town of Baquba, north of Baghdad.

The following is a chronology of major bombings in Iraq since Iraq's interim government was established on June 1:

July 19 -- At least nine people are killed and about 60 others wounded in a suicide car bombing near a police station in southwestern Baghdad.

July 17 -- Two person are killed and 25 others wounded in a carbomb explosion outside an Iraqi National Guard headquarters in Mahmudiyah city south of Baghdad.

July 15 -- A total of 10 people are killed, including three Iraqi policemen, and 27 others wounded when a car bomb explodes near the main police building in the Iraqi town of Haditha northwest of Baghdad.

July 14 -- At least 10 people are killed and 40 others wounded in a car bomb attack outside the Green Zone in central Baghdad.

June 26 -- A car bomb goes off in Hilla, 100 km south of Baghdad, killing at least 17 people and injuring about 40 others.

June 24 -- Anti-US insurgents launch a series of coordinated attacks in Sunni-dominated region of Iraq, killing more than 70 people.

June 17 -- A suicide car bombing kills at least 35 people and wounds more than 100 others outside the gates of a recruitment center for the new Iraqi army in Baghdad.

June 14 -- Thirteen people, including five foreign contractors,are killed in a suicide bombing in the city center of Baghdad.

June 13 -- A car bomb kills up to 12 Iraqis, including four police officers, and wounds 13 others when it hits a police patrolling team in southwest Baghdad.

June 8 -- A car bomb blows up near the mayor's office in Mosul in northern Iraq, leaving at least 10 people killed and 100 otherswounded.

June 6 -- A car bomb blows up at a training base for the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps just north of Baghdad, killing at least six Iraqis and wounding 20 others.

June 1 -- Two separate car bombs hit Iraq, leaving a total of 16 Iraqis dead and 40 others wounded.
