Chinese Vice-Premier Huang Ju paid a study visit to Qinghai province, an economically backward area in northwest China, from July 26-29. While there, he urged the province to effectively resolve contradictions and problems pertaining to local development.

During his stay, Vice Premier Huang, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, inspected a number of industrialprojects, including the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Project. He also traveled to the country's largest salt lake, the Qinghai Lake.

Huang took a railcar to visit the plateau railway project, which has been under construction since 2001. He greeted the railway workers on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.

In a meeting with local provincial officials, he urged Qinghai to seize the opportunity of the central government's strategy to boost development of the underdeveloped western part of the country.

Huang also advised local officials to attach more importance tobuilding infrastructure and protecting the area's vulnerable environment.
