Sri Lankan main opposition's pledge of unconditional support to the government is a devious plot to create internal division in the government, state-owned radio said here on Saturday.

Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) news quoted analysts as saying that the opposition pledge had hidden intentions to create dissension among the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government's coalition partners.

The main opposition United National Party (UNP) legislator Rajitha Senaratne on Thursday said his party was willing to give support to President Chandrika Kumaratunga to revive the falteringpeace bid with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels.

The UNP MP's statement followed a reported threat by the leftist JVP or People's Liberation Front that they would walk out of the coalition if Kumaratunga restarted talks with the rebels based on their interim power sharing blueprint.

The JVP, which dominates the UPFA policy making, has dubbed therebel proposals as one which is leading toward the separation of the island nation.

However, Kumaratunga has from time to time told the Norwegian peace facilitators that she would fulfill the LTTE demand to restart talks on the Interim Self-Governing Authority (ISGA) for the war-torn north and east.

Despite its victory in the April 2 parliamentary elections, Kumaratunga's UPFA lacks the 113-seat working majority in the 225-member assembly, which has hampered the government's legislative capability.
