Bodies of murdered Chilean diplomats repatriated
font size

The bodies of two of the three Chilean diplomats assassinated in the Chilean Embassy in Costa Rica last Tuesday arrived in Santiago in the early hours of Saturday.

These are the bodies of consul Christian Yuseff and secretary of the office of the attache, Rocio Sariego, murdered by Jose Jimenez, an embassy guard for five years.

Meanwhile, the body of the first secretary, Roberto Nieto, willbe incinerated in Costa Rica, as requested by his wife, Marcela Guerrero, who awaits the end of the present school year of his three children to return to Chile.

According to Chilean ambassador to Costa Rica, Guillermo Yunge, once the bodies arrive in Chile, a mass will be held with the participation of President Ricardo Lagos.

It was believed that Jimenez held the hostages after feeling upset because he would be transferred to another post. In an apparent attack of madness, he attacked the diplomats.

Jimenez shot the three Chilean diplomats before turning the gun on himself. Seven other embassy staff members escaped his attack by locking themselves in two rooms nearby.

Both Costa Rica and Chile on last Wednesday declared national mourning for these Chilean diplomats killed.
