Gu Xiulian, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), recently visited an Air Force base in the vast desert of northwest China, on the eve of the August 1 Army's Day.

Gu, who is also president of the All-China Women's Federation, congratulated the Air Force officers and soldiers on the festival,on behalf of her federation and the China Youth Foundation. She thanked the Air Force for its financial assistance to the foundation's programs to help female students from poor families.

During the stay, the delegation visited two local schools run by the military base and donated 40 computers and educational software to the schools.
