Germany to help train Iraqi soldiers in UAE

Germany would send military personnel and vehicles to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to help train Iraqi soldiers in UAE, a government spokesman said on Tuesday.

The spokesman confirmed that first round of talks over the training program has taken place among Iraq, UAE and Germany.

His remarks came after German newspaper Die Welt in its Wednesday edition reported that UAE had been prepared to offer necessary measures in infrastructure for the program.

A UAE official told Die Welt that German forces would send 100 five-ton-truck and German officials would train Iraqi soldiers techniques relating to the vehicle.

"It is expected that further proceedings will be coordinated at an expert level," the spokesman said.

German experts have so far trained about 220 police officers incourses run in the United Arab Emirates.

The German government has made clear that it would only participate in military training program outside Iraq.
