Chief of staff of Algerian military resigns

The chief of staff of the Algerian military, Mohamed Lamari, has resigned for health reasons, the Algerian Press Service (APS) reported on Tuesday.

Lamari presented his resignation during a meeting with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the APS quoted a presidential statement as saying. The president accepted the resignation and appointed Commander of the Army Ahmed Gaid to succeed Lamari, it said.

Lamari, 65, had served as chief of staff of the Algerian military since 1993.
